We use only first-flush leaves from partner farms on the Makinohara plateau and steam them for roughly twice the usual time.

The astringency is gentle, with a rich, rounded sweetness that fills the mouth. Its deep green liquor is a pleasure to look at from the moment it reaches the cup.

An everyday tea that is equally at home when welcoming guests — the classic of Hanakago Tea.

How to brew (for two)

  1. Put 6 g of leaves (two heaped teaspoons) into a kyusu teapot.
  2. Pour freshly boiled water into a cooling bowl and let it cool to about 70–80°C.
  3. Add 140 ml of water and steep for about 60 seconds.
  4. Pour alternately into two cups, a little at a time, until the very last drop.

For a second infusion, use hotter water and pour straight away to enjoy how the aroma changes.
